Would expect a really good effort. If that effort is not seen (not necessarily a win just a high effort) I will be god-smacked and probably lower my already low expectations.

Have to hope that they were just really affected by Mason's poor game, which is a complete outlier in my opinion, and they bounce back and play the structured team game that they played against TB, rather than it being a sign of continued ups and downs from last season.

It will be very interesting to see how the team responds tonight. It's only game 3 so it's really too early to say it's a must win. But a good showing will go a long way to easing the growing concern in the fan base, and more importantly, will give the team a much needed confidence boost.

It will be interesting. A team can get into an early season funk, that will sink their chances. Don't want to be chasing the season this early. They need a win.

Happy to see Brandon Manning sit actually. Nothing against him but he hasn't stood out at all in any fashion of the game.

I didn't realize Umberger was hurt, which is super disappointing to hear. He was good in both games so far.

I haven't seen the numbers but even with Saturday's meltdown and Luke Schenn being on the ice for at least 3 of the 7 goals, I thought he's been better than I expected. First goal is a long dump in on net that sees Medvedev to slow too keep up with his man. Mason gives puck away on the 4th goal for a gimme. Luke just returned to the ice after the 4 minute penalty as the Panthers score. His skating is still awful but other than that, I think he's been what we need him to be.

The good Luke Schenn has always been a solid defenseman. The question is when, or how often will we see the bad Luke Schenn.

Yeah but really, is there any defenseman on the team that we can't say the same thing about? Maybe Streit. But the others, even Schultz, can be prone to funks or poor play, especially when they stopping playing their game.

Welcome back!

I feel the guys I and others normally rag on have actually shown up.

For starters, Simmonds trying to do too much as a player with limited puck skill. After last season, fans had this idea Voracek is this dominating player. Voracek is a great player and he hasn't been awful so far but what he did last year has to come every year and on most nights. I haven't seen last season's Voracek yet.

Schenn when he's bad tends to stop moving his feet, and is guilt of poor positioning. Every defenseman is prone to having a bad game now and again. Streit and Schultz to me, are pretty steady and even keeled players.

The play of Giroux, Simmonds, and to a lesser extent Voracek, is a big problem so far this season. The Flyers need to get off to a strong start. Even if they're able to play the strong team game they played against TB, without those 3 scoring, they won't score enough goals.

I'm not down on Giroux because he continues his all situations play. He's started the last 3 October's slow just to place himself in the top 10 in points by mid November.

Every single Dman on this roster has glaring weaknesses in their game, it's why none of them can reliably play on a top pair.

Schultz lacks any resemblance of offensive skill and has a tendency to play soft at times.
Streit is just all out weak defensively and cannot defend well in his own zone
Schenn often ends up way out of position when going for hits and makes quite a few bonehead mistakes
Gudas is slow and lacks offensive skill
MDZ makes way too many bonehead plays and can, at times, be just awful defensively
Medvedev is still trying to adapt to the NHL rink/game, it's just to soon, right now, to count on him to be more than 4/5 guy
Manning is Manning, a generic 6/7

Is what it is, at least help seems to be on the way.

I think Vorachek and G will be fine. G seems to be prone to slow starts. It's not ideal, but it is what it is.

As much as he gets the love on here, Raffl is the weak link on the line. Yes, he does some things very well to help the line - occupying space, puck retrieval, etc. And yes, at the end of the day he can put the puck in the net.

But overall, he is certainly not their equal in passing or generating a rush. I think a stronger winger would help get them untracked in games where the defense seems to be bottling them up.

Unfortunately, he is really the best option for the team right now.

I thought the spin move that Smith put on Schultz was just awful. Too much has been made of Schultz play last season. I do not expect him to duplicate the same play of last year. Not to say he can't be good but common!!

Hakstol also seemed to be considering a change on the blueline. Radko Gudas, a healthy scratch in the first two games, split reps with Brandon Manning on Del Zotto's pairing at Sunday's practice.

I think what makes a line a really good line is balance, and players who compliment each other. Raffl's ability to forecheck, backcheck, pressure the puck, and get to the net, as well as score, makes him a really good compliment to that line. With how much Giroux and Voracek carry the puck, Raffl doesn't need to. When that line is not going good, it's not going to be due to Raffl, but it's going to be due to Giroux and Voracek, like we've seen in the first two games. In the past, Raffl has made every line he's played on better. Top players are going to see top competition and defensman all season long.
